It-s a common assumption that if you want to get into the world of baking your own homemade goodies, you need lots of spare time on your hands. There are some types of baking that are time consuming, but the truth is, you can whip out a huge array of baked goods in the time it takes you to get ready and out the door every morning, or right before bed at night. The tricks for baking on a time budget are planning ahead and choosing the right recipes. The whole story can be found at http://nancysrecipes.wordpress.com/2011/09/07/blackberry-peach-coffee-cake/
Before you get started, make certain that your work area is ready to go to. Gather the ingredients, mixing bowls, mixers, spoons, and other equipment you plan to use so that they are readily at hand. It may be helpful to set these things out the night before, and to have ingredients pre-measured and ready to go. Keep a list posted of ingredients you need to replace. It-s a time waster to start a cake and discover you-re nearly out of sugar.
Choosing the right recipes for you is the real time-saver. You don-t need hours to wait on quick-bread recipes to rise: the rising agent is baking powder or soda, hence the name “quick bread’. Muffins, custard pies, and many cookie recipes are meant especially for bakers with little time to spare. Hunt through old cookbooks for titles like “busy-day cake’, “7 minute frosting’, and “lazy-day coffee cake’. Modern families aren-t the first to be in a hurry: you too can make time out for baking almost any day.

Many people enjoy going to the bakery pr grocery store and getting delicious treats. The treats are so good that many people do not care about the fact that those sweets are loaded with almost a day’s worth of fat, calories and sugar. There is no need for people to give up the foods that they like, but one way that people can enjoy healthier foods is by baking their treats at home.

Baking food at home is definitely more healthy than buying desserts from a bakery. Most bakeries and other stores are concerned about making a profit and not necessarily people’s health. That is why they often put more sugar than in the desserts that what is actually needed. If a person decides to bake his or her treats at home, he or she can put less sugar in the dessert.

It is also important to note that most bakeries also offer very large portions. Eating a large portion of a dessert adds more unnecessary sugar, fat and calories to one’s diet. People who choose to bake at home can make smaller portions. Those who make smaller portions of desserts are less likely to over indulge than those who do not.

With concern for weight and diabetes in today’s world, many cooks have decided to use artificial sweeteners instead of sugar. I, being a traditionalist, have decided that only real sugar will work with my recipes, and would like to point out the benefits. Moreover, at a flea market, I found a beautiful jar that looks like Roseville Pottery, and this is where I hide my sugar for baking cookies and cakes. The leaf decorated jar is an appropriate container for something as delicious as real sugar and dates back to another era, when everyone used sugar for baking.I found some more information here.

Nutritionists agree that real sugar is better than chemical versions or artificial sweeteners. The secret if you are watching your weight or do not want a lot of sugar in your family’s diet, is to use less than the recipe calls for. Some of the benefits of baking with sugar include providing crispness, browning, volume, moisture and, of course, sweetness.

I bake banana bread often and sometimes use brown sugar. However, it is real sugar and I use less than called for in the traditional recipe. A delicious treat, served on an antique china painted plate, makes snacking seem like high tea.
